Sonia Welford (b. 1975, Poland) is a London-based visual artist and abstract painter working primarily with mixed media on canvas.Welford lived in New Zealand for several years, where her artistic practice began to take shape alongside her career in interior design. Her work explores human emotions, memories, life experiences and the thoughts we carry within us. Beginning with a feeling, memory or fragment of experience, each painting develops instinctively through colour, texture, mark-making, layers, shadow and form.Welford invites viewers to pause, look closer and bring their own experiences to the work, creating a space for reflection and connection with the inner world of memory, emotion and lived experience.
